The lagoon on the Mlalazi River held a special place in the life of John Dunn who would camp and meet with the local elders under a large Milkwood tree (site of the present Indaba Campsite). At a time when hippos and crocodiles were regularly found in the Mlalazi River, Dunn dug a pool on the banks of the river to provide safe bathing for his large family.
Dunn’s Pool is set in the Mangrove forest adjacent to the car park at the lagoon.
